FRIENDSHIP CERTIFICATE FROM THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES
A certificate of friendship is usually presented to the clubs who host us as well as the clubs we visit. The certificates can be signed by either the Mayor or any of the City Council people. They must be requested 8 to 10 weeks in advance. For a certificate signed by the Mayor, you should contact Michele Israel at the Mayor’s office: Telephone: 1-213-978-2678, Fax: 1-213-978-0650. No e-mail. The letter of request may be faxed to them. After faxing it to them, call to make sure it has been received. Pick up is at the security desk at 211 N. Spring Street, 3rd Floor. Note that there is no entrance on Spring Street and that you have to enter on Main Street. It is possible to have the certificates mailed. For a certificate signed by a City Council person, you should contact your own city councilperson.

The Friendship Force of Los Angeles is a part of a worldwide cultural exchange program. It was started by President Jimmy Carter and was previously nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Friendship Force of Los Angeles is hosting an exchange with The Friendship Force of _____________________ for the week of ________________________. We request one appropriate presentation certificate, for use by The Friendship Force of Los Angeles during this cultural exchange.
The following wording is suggested:
"This certificate of friendship is hereby presented to The Friendship Force of ________________, on behalf of the people of Los Angeles, with warmest wishes and hopes that the peoples of our two countries will grow in friendship and understanding".

[If we are traveling, you can use this language]
The Friendship Force of Los Angeles is traveling to _______________, leaving Los Angeles on ___________. We request one appropriate presentation certificate, for use by The Friendship Force of Los Angeles during this cultural exchange.
The following wording is suggested:
"This certificate of friendship is hereby presented to you, [if presentation will be made to Mayor of the town include his or her name as well as the town's name we visit, otherwise] The Friendship Force of ________________), on behalf of the people of Los Angeles, with warmest wishes and hopes that the peoples of our two countries will grow in friendship and understanding".

We thank you for your kind assistance. We will be calling to check on the status of this request. The certificate is needed no later than _________________.
