FFLA is a non-profit volunteer organization. It is a member club of Friendship Force International.
Governance of FFLA is managed by member volunteers who serve on a Board or Leadership team which guides the organization and oversees the operations of the club.
Membership is open to all who share our desire to create a world of peace by reaching out to others with a welcome hand of friendship. Our members live in many areas of Los Angeles including the San Fernando Valley, the Southbay communities, the Westside, Mid-City, Santa Monica and areas just outside of Los Angeles.
FFLA members are adventurous, curious about the world, eager to learn about about different cultures and believe in building bridges between nations and cultures on a one-to-one basis, one friend at a time. We enjoy traveling the world visiting friends and making new friends.
And we enjoy showing visiting ambassadors our cities, towns and neighborhoods, favorite restaurants, museums and other points of interest in and around Los Angeles. We enjoy getting together with each other to explore the many cultural riches of the Los Angeles area and to share our 'Journey' stories.
Members open their homes to visiting ambassadors, serve as home hosts, day hosts, dinner party hosts, plan and attend activities and events. We serve as Ambassador Hosts on outbound journeys and Host Coordinators for inbound journeys and attend Regional and International FF conferences.
FFLA hosts journeys from FF clubs around the world and clubs within the United States.
What visiting FF clubs can expect from a one-week homestay in Los Angeles.
Ambassadors are introduced to some of the iconic sights and venues Los Angeles is known for. During summer journeys we often take in a performance at the Hollywood Bowl; other times of year we visit the famous Disney Hall Music Center - home to the LA Philharmonic. Tours of downtown LA, various beach communities and Hollywood are some of the activities Ambassadors may experience. All homestay journeys include welcome parties, small dinner parties in member's homes and a farewell party. This is in addition to spending time with host families in their communities.
Traveling with Friendship Force
The FFLA club looks forward to yearly Club-to-Club journeys, both domestic and international. Members also travel with other FF clubs when space is available on Club-to-Club journeys. Members are kept up-to-date on the many offerings from FFI for Global and Themed Journeys open to all FF members. And members travel to Regional and International conferences.
History of FFLA
FFLA was founded in 1985 and hosted its first inbound journey (at that time called an exchange), hosting members of the West Berlin, Germany FF Club. The following year 1986, 47 FFLA members traveled to Osaka, Japan and that same year hosted 41 ambassadors from the Netherlands for a two-week homestay.
Since then FFLA members have been making connections and friends, and enjoying home hospitality throughout the world. And, have been extending a welcome hand of peace and friendship to FF ambassadors from all around the world. FFLA members have enjoyed homestays in Canada, South America, Europe, Mexico, Latin America, The Middle East, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, and the former USSR, as well as domestic homestays throughout the US.
